Barrie/Simcoe Cycling Club set to host 5th Annual Youth Cup Race & 1st ever Women's Only Road Race
This brand new course, located just off Veteran’s Drive in Barrie’s south end, measures just under 2km in length, with wide, safe corners all the way around. Completely traffic free, with a punchy climb to the finish, the course promises for a fun and exciting day of racing!
The Youth Race is a stage race designed for boys & girls ages 10-16, featuring both a Time Trial and a Criterium Road Race in the same day!
The Women’s Only Race is something that is brand new to the Barrie/Simcoe Cycling Club. Women are equally present in the cycling community, however history shows us that races, both road and mountain, are very male dominant. Because of this, it's very intimidating for women to get started in road cycling and mountain bike racing.
Recognizing this, the Barrie/Simcoe Cycling Club has developed our first ever women's only road race, with the goal of providing women of all cycling abilities with the chance to try their first race, or maybe even compete in our elite category, where there are cash prizes available from 1st to 5th place. We feel it's about time we celebrate women in cycling, not just men.
“Our long term hope is that a trend develops from our race and other clubs and organizations host their own version in the future. This should be a national movement, not just local to Barrie.” – Brendan Matheson, Simcoe County Cycling Strategy Coordinator.
We have a great number of sponsors and partners on board for both races, and some awesome prizes available for racers. We strongly encourage everyone to come out to this very spectator friendly course for what promises to be a great day of racing!
