Blessing Of A Young Hero

I just returned from a work trip to find out My dad went through the ice on Lake Simcoe Friday. He was the last to pack up and on his way in he went through with no one around he tried the only ice pick he had , but the ice kept breaking all around him. He was alone and of course very scared and yelling for help. A young man named Mike saw him go through from shore and went running for a rope he tried to get it out to my dad and struggled to reach him but never gave up and finally got it to him. He pulled my dad in and saved his life. This could have been a crushing loss to me and my whole family if it wasn't for Mike.

My dad said it was the scariest moment of his life and he has clearly learned his lesson.
I hope by sharing this it helps some of those fisherman who tempt the late ice to think twice . I'm forever grateful to this young man who is a true hero:)) and I thank god as well.

The picture is from the next day, Mike was also kind enough to dig out the gear from the ice and my dad went to see him the next day to thank him and they had this picture.
I posted this on some local fishing board forums and the response was overwhelmingly kind and supportive and many respectful accolades were given to Mike as he is a true hero. People suggested I contact the local papers to get this story out to spread the word on being safe and there are good people out there like Mike. He deserves all the credit for his actions. Some say the leafs or Jays may even award and honour him as he is clearly a fan. I would love to see this happen. My deepest gratitude towards Mike for saving my dads life.
