Georgian men's rugby team falls to St. Lawrence Vikings in Barrie

The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team hosted the St. Lawrence Vikings in an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) semifinal match on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.

The Grizzlies got off to a great start, with Brampton native Donovan Jacko scoring the opening try less than five minutes into the game.

James Hulbert, who hails from Aurora, followed with a convert and a penalty kick a few minutes later putting Georgian up 10-0.

Following that, the visiting Vikings turned the game in their favour, grinding away at the Grizzlies scoring 28 unanswered points with tries from William Fellows (Kingston), Elias Pickell (Edmonton) and Alexander Vasco (Kingston).

Georgian made an incredible late push in the final few minutes, with tries from Henry Do (Brampton) and Joshua Michalik (Barrie), but the comeback came up short as St. Lawrence claimed victory, 28-24.

It was the first loss for the Grizzlies in the last two seasons, snapping a stretch of 14 straight regular-season and playoff wins.

The Grizzlies will now play in the OCAA bronze-medal game which they will host on Saturday at J.C. Massie Field at Georgian College's Barrie campus.

Tickets for the final game of the season will be available at the door for $10.
