Calls not coming from the city

Phone calls about overdue property taxes to Barrie residents are just another scam.

The city has received reports from residents about the calls, which ask people to hit a number to make payment.

These calls are not coming from the city, which does not accept credit card payment for property taxes.

Rather, tax bills are four times a year – in February, April, June and September.

Pre-authorized payment plan options are installments taken on a due date and

equal amounts taken January to May, and June to October.

There is also a tax arrears plan; an agreed-upon amount is taken every month, and interest applies.

Property taxes can also be paid by telebanking, internet banking, payment at any financial institution, drop boxes located at Barrie City Hall (front entrance off Collier Street or the entrance at the back parking lot), or by post-dated cheques.

Additional information about various payment options available, or if you have not received your tax bill, call Service Barrie 705-726-4242 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.
